Our philosophy is very simple: Help those in need. You might wonder how you could help with this valuable work? Ask God in prayer what your unique contribution might be and take action through one of the suggested “Ways to Help”. Above all, pray that God’s love will be revealed to these people in need. After all, you never know when you might need a food box… Ways to Help

Non-perishable food is always needed. Canned soups, fruits and vegetables, tuna, peanut butter, beans, rice, baby food and sugar free and low-fat foods are our most highly requested foods. In spite of this broad range of suppliers, leadership is always looking for new sources of food. If you have any suggestions, call the church office or email us. info@opendoorvcf.com You Can Conduct Food Drives: Food and fund drives are welcome throughout the year, at any time. Your efforts make an enormous difference in the amount and variety of foods we are able to distribute to feed hungry people in the surrounding area. Our food drive helps us keep these items in stock and available for distribution Even if you have a small team you can make a big difference. Our food drive tips will add to your success. Consider hosting a "special" food drive and collect one type of food, such as baby food and formula or peanut butter and jelly. Do it as a Home Group it will be fun. How To Start Food and Fund Drive 1. Start Early: You can begin promoting your food and fund drive now! Share information throughout your community to raise involvement early in the process. You also can promote your food and fund drive in community and church bulletin, through local TV, radio and newspaper media outlets, at neighborhood grocery stores and many other locales. 2. Set A Goal: No matter what your approach, it helps to have a specific goal for your food and fund drive. This gives participants something to work toward and creates a benchmark for success. 3. Have Fun: Your food and fund drive can be more fun AND successful if you decide upon some creative approaches together. Use cans as entry into a sporting event in lieu of tickets; turn your drive into a friendly competition. 4. Let Us Know Your Plan: Area media representatives may cover interesting stories and broadcast them to the greater Austin community. By sharing your plan with the Food Bank, we are able to keep the media informed of your food and fund drive's progress. 5. Set-up A Central Location: Collect donated food and grocery items at a central location throughout your drive. Assign one or two individuals to be responsible for financial contributions to the Food Bank. 6. Make It Educational: Participating in a food and fund drive is an excellent opportunity to educate your neighbors, friends and family about the meaning of community sharing, hunger and nutrition, economics and volunteerism. |
